The following side events are being organized by the Host Country or a Member State:

1. CONFERENCE: DIGITAL SECURITY DIALOGUE: NETWORKS = CRITICAL

Description: A high-level, aligned with the ITU Global Cybersecurity Agenda (GCA), this host country side event is addressed to all PP-22 participants interested in the critical role of shared digital security in building confidence in the communication networks in the context of constantly increased use of Information and Communication Technologies.

2. MINISTERIAL ROUNDTABLE: BUILDING A BETTER DIGITAL FUTURE FOR ALL
Date and time: Sunday, 25 September, 10.00 am – 1.00 pm (Bucharest local time)
Format: in-person meeting
Venue: Human Rights room
Participants: Top-level government officials (Ministers and Deputy-Ministers) – closed meeting
Description: The aim of this event is to provide an opportunity for high-level reflections and for constructive exchange of views and institutional experiences, from a governmental perspective, from high-level representatives of various countries, from all regions. The outcome of the discussion will be the adoption of a joint Declaration that summarizes a common approach on policies for the development of sustainable digital future and a way forward on the current topic.

3. HIGH-LEVEL PANEL AND NETWORKING BREAKFAST – STRENGTHENING WOMEN`S EMPOWERMENT AND LEADERSHIP IN THE ITU

Description: By bringing together women ministers from the 6 ITU regions and delegates committed to bring the gender digital divide, this hallmark gender equality event at PP-22 aims to foster global women’s networks, to inspire current and future generations of women leaders in telecommunications/ICTs and to build an inclusive world. 4. THE PARLIAMENTARIAN – PRIVATE SECTOR FORUM: BRIDGING THE DIGITAL DIVIDE – A GLOBAL AGENDA FOR THE DIGITAL FUTURE

Participants: Member of the national Parliaments, C-level from Romanian companies, VVIPs, VIPs, HoD attending PP-22
Description: Organized under the overall theme Bridging the digital divide – a global agenda for the future, the Parliamentary Private Sector Forum will offer strategic considerations for parliamentarians, policymakers, and business leaders, in their approach to communications and digital development frameworks, both at the national and international level. The participants will have the chance to connect with international development vectors, will engage with transcontinental policy trends, and will work toward a global consensus with regard to improved access to information and communications technology, and to bridging the digital divide.

5. WSIS PROCESS: WSIS BEYOND 2025

Description: This side event is hosted by Nigeria on the theme of identifying emerging trends and challenges in the Action Lines.

6. YOUTH AT PP-22 – INTERGENERATIONAL DIALOGUE 1: EDUCATION, FUTURE JOBS, AND DIGITAL SKILLS

Participants: Generation Connect Youth Envoys, Youth delegates, and other delegates attending PP-22
Description: With a focus on accessibility, inclusivity, and scalability of digital education for youth, this intergenerational dialogue will capture global leaders’ thoughts and expertise on the future of work. The value of implementing long-term initiatives to prepare today’s youth for the digital workforce will be a key theme of this session.

7. YOUTH AT PP-22 – MEANINGFUL YOUTH ENGAGEMENT WORKSHOP: SHAPING THE NEXT GENERATION OF ITU DELEGATES

Description: In this dynamic youth-led workshop, Generation Connect Youth Envoys and decision-makers will engage in activities and discussions to reflect on the barriers and opportunities for meaningful youth engagement at national, regional and international levels. Through intergenerational collaboration, participants will explore actionable steps towards the empowerment of the next generation of ITU delegates and the implementation of meaningful youth engagement in their own communities.

8. VISIT TO THE CENTER FOR ADVANCED RESEARCH ON NEW MATERIALS, PRODUCTS AND INNOVATIVE PROCESSES – CAMPUS

Venue: The Polytechnic University of Bucharest
Participants: TBC – the ITU Secretary-General, the PP-22 Chairperson, and the selected youth from Generation Connect Youth Envoys
Description: Polytechnic University of Bucharest is an advanced research and education university in Romania, with over 200 years of activity. The CAMPUS is a uniquely designed building, both from the infrastructure point of view, as well as functionality, serving as working space for 42 connected inter-disciplinary research labs. The aim of these labs is to deploy the convergence of the life, physical, and engineering sciences as a catalyst for new solutions and to explore a new model of university activity by extending the power of practical solutions to other entities. The CAMPUS is a proof that when the private sector meets academia, new solutions for technological progress can be developed, and the achievements can inspire youth to bring their own contribution and have common initiatives for community developments and economic growth. The Host Country will give the Generation Connect Youth Envoys the possibility to visit the labs and get to know the stories behind the innovations developed by youth for youth and for the future generations.

9. YOUTH AT PP-22 – INTERGENERATIONAL DIALOGUE 2: BRIDGING THE GENDER DIGITAL DIVIDE

Description: A discussion between multigenerational global leaders will be held on bridging the gender digital divide. With a focus on women under 30, this session will explore how policies and initiatives can sustainably close the digital gender gap. In alignment with the ITU Youth Strategy, this event aims to foster partnership between decision makers and young leaders in digital development.

10. PRIVATE GUIDED NIGHT TOUR ART SAFARI 2022
Date and time: Thursday, 6 October, starting at 10.00 pm
Venue: Dacia-Romania Palace
Participants: PP-22 Chairperson and the selected youth from Generation Connect Youth Envoys
Description: Art Safari Bucharest is one of Eastern Europe’s biggest and most exciting annual arts events, that showcases Romanian masterpieces and international art. This event, focused on the developments of contemporary art, hosts many exhibitions under the same roof, curated by acclaimed Romanian and international experts, placing Bucharest on the map of the most important European cultural capitals. Alongside the Romanian art museums and private collectors, Art Safari is curating large retrospective exhibitions that aim to recover Romanian heritage values. With a strong educational side, its mission is to bring art closer to the public and educate new generations by organizing art workshops for children, guided tours and contemporary art exhibitions in unconventional spaces. This year, the 10th edition of Art Safari takes place between September 23 and December 11, 2022, in the Dacia-Romania Palace (Lipscani Street, no. 18-20) and will include a sensational exhibition in partnership with the famous Victoria & Albert Museum, London, featuring highly valuable works signed by John Constable. The famous British museum is now exhibiting for the first time in Eastern Europe, and the selected artist is one of the greatest landscape painters of all time.

11. CONFERENCE “AUTOMATION FOR GOOD: LEVERAGING AUTOMATION TO DRIVE SOCIAL IMPACT AND SUSTAINABILITY GOALS”

Description: This hybrid event will focus on the role of automation in driving social impact and helping businesses and governments meet sustainability goals. On this occasion, Social Innovation Solutions will present its report focusing on how technologies like automation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be a catalyst for achieving the SDGs, which includes a repository of tech solutions and key global trends for 2030 in AI & automation.
